Your NMI is a unique 11 digit number that identifies the metering at your premise and ensures that you are billed correctly. All electricity bills must include your NMI and it is usually located with the metering information on your bill and in Victoria it will start with the number 6.

The Meter Installation Registration Number (MIRN) provides a unique identifier used by gas retailers and distributors to identify the gas supply point (meter) at your property.

We will ask you for your MIRN if you choose to transfer your gas supply to Dodo.

Your current gas retailer is required to provide the MIRN for your property on your gas bill. The MIRN is usually located in gas meter and property details section of your bill.

Residential GD (General Domestic) or Single Rate meters are used to measure all electricity used at one tariff (there are no separate peak and off-peak tariffs). The majority of homes with gas hot water have their meters configured this way.

Residential GD and Controlled Load meter configurations can involve either one “Two-Rate” meter or separate meters which are used to measure electricity consumed for normal light and power (Residential GD) and electricity for electric hot water and/or space heating (Controlled Load or off-peak) separately.

Controlled Load use is managed by a time switch to the connected appliance. The majority of homes with this meter configuration have electric hot-water systems.

Residential GH/GL configured meters or “Time-of-Use” meters are used to measure all electricity consumed using two tariffs which change depending on the time of day and day of the the week. These meters are usually configured to record all usage from 7am-11pm Monday to Friday at a peak tariff, and all usage from 11pm to 7am Monday to Friday and weekends recorded on the off-peak tariff.

Climate Saver meter configuration is an option available only in the Powercor distribution zone, where a dedicated meter is installed for reverse cycle air conditioning units. This meter configuration is approved by Powercor.

Residential Interval Meters or Smart Meters are used to measure electricity usage in 30-minute intervals and provide usage data, connect or disconnect a premise without a meter reader visiting. By 2013, every Victorian residence will have its meter changed to an Interval Meter.

Meter configurations for Smart Meters can vary therefore all tariffs for Smart Meters are subject to the current meter configuration and associated network tariff.

Business Single Rate is the rate for general electricity use and applies to all consumption 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. There is no Off Peak period associated with this rate.

Business Single Rate and Controlled Load is the rate for general electricity consumption and time switch controlled electric hot water and/or storage space heater consumption (the controlled period is generally between 11pm and 7am AEST ). This rate is only available to installations currently taking supply under these rates.

Business 5 Day Peak / Off Peak is the rate for general business use where usage charges vary based on Peak and Off Peak times. Peak rates generally apply between 7am and 11pm Monday to Friday AEST, and Off Peak rates generally apply 11pm and 7am Monday to Friday AEST, and all weekend.
